Press Conference Marking the Transfer of Biphasic Osteochondral Repair for Articular Cartilag
Biphasic osteochondral repair for articular cartilage regeneration technology marks a breakthrough for Taiwan.
Physicians had expressed the urgent need for such technology in clinical therapy. The technology was designed
in conjunction with medical equipment and ITRI contributed state-of-the-art technology in this cooperative effort.
Research achievements are now being transferred to Exactech Taiwan. This cooperation sets a model for the
development of high value-added biomedical product technology on Taiwan.
A press conference will be held on March 18 at 10:00 a.m. in Conference Room 402AB at the National Taiwan
University Hospital’s International Convention Center, at which an agreement will be signed transferring the
technology jointly developed by ITRI and NTU Hospital to Exactech Taiwan.

收盤簡評
週一台股受到上週五美股重挫,與亞洲股市普遍開低影響,大盤跳空下跌,電子股成為跌勢重心,DRAM、TFT面板與IC設計股紛重挫,僅LED與博弈概念股相對強勢,非電子族群則以選後兩岸題材股的飯店、資產營建、航運等類股表現較佳,大盤指數終場大跌155.93點,以8005.46點作收,成交量略放大為1185億。
重點觀察
盤大盤週一出現8120-8053點的跳空缺口並直接摜破季線,此缺口與2/25跳空缺口8108-8228點對稱,短線宜迅速回補,否則技術面有島型反轉疑慮,台股中、短線技術面偏弱勢。目前上檔5/10日均線反壓在8300點持續走弱,但下檔兩年線在7800-7900點間持續上揚,配合9日KD來到25/42,大盤7800-8000點支撐不弱。
研判建議
最近美國金融機構狀況不斷,除令國際主要股市頻頻破底、表現疲弱外,FED也以緊急釋金與大幅降息以對;由於美國經濟需要長期調整,包括亞、歐與中國大陸經濟勢將受到影響,對台股長線格局易形成壓抑需留意。就操作策略來看,若選前股價再見急挫,反而有利台股選後短線強彈契機,空手者仍可酌量擇優低接。

企業倫理教育在授課方面一直面臨教材收集不易、實務案例不夠豐富及道德
倫理難以言傳等問題;凡此種種尚有賴各界針對問題背後之結構性因素,做長期
持續的關注,真正達到改善的目標。信義文化基金會自93年度開始辦理「企業倫
理教育紮根計畫」以來,已邁入第4年,因此信義文化基金會與本會更期?#92;除了

台灣總統選舉受到國際高度關注國際媒體新聞中心」啟用儀式中表示
台灣總統選舉受到國際高度關注,行政院新聞局以專業熱誠及嶄新作為接待來台採訪之國際媒體記者
隨著總統大選造勢進入最後一週,選情白熱化之際,目前已知有35個國家與地區的180個媒體、25家智庫將派遣540名以上的記者及專家自今日起陸續抵台進行採訪與觀選。目前向新聞局登記將來台採訪的歐美主流媒體包括紐約時報、華盛頓郵報、華爾街日報、美聯社、英國泰晤士報、BBC、路透社、法國世界報、費加洛日報、法新社、德國第一廣播電視台(ARD)、德國之聲等派駐在亞洲之特派員等共有181人;日本讀賣新聞、NHK、日本經濟新聞、每日新聞等主要媒體共有104人;阿拉伯世界的卡達半島電視台、伊朗Press TV、沙烏地阿拉伯Al Arabiya電視台共8人;此外,全球華文媒體有40家174人完成報名,其中除中國新華社、人民日報、中央電視台等8家原已在台駐點的14名記者外,尚有香港地區30餘家媒體130餘人將來台採訪。
謝志偉局長在3月17日舉行的「國際媒體新聞中心」啟用儀式中表示,新聞局稟持一貫服務媒體的理念,及長期積累的專業經驗,今年以嶄新的作為接待這些國際媒體記者,包括開放網路報名、成立「國際媒體新聞中心」、提供報導素材與活動。新聞局首度成立的「國際媒體新聞中心」將透過專業的服務,協助國際媒體對台灣大選之報導,以促使國際社會對我民主政治發展有更深層的認識。該中心將於3月18日至24日開放給國際媒體人士使用。
「國際媒體新聞中心」除提供個人OA工作桌、電腦及網路網點、通訊設備等設施外,並安排選情座談會、台灣參與世界衛生組織(WHO)座談會及相關參訪活動、大陸委員會陳明通主任委員記者會、「長昌」及「馬蕭」競選總部國際記者會、台灣戰略安全研討會,以及分析開票情形等一系列活動。3月16日至18日間,新聞局並將與國防部及文化建設委員會合辦國際記者赴金門及綠島之採訪行程。全球最大的新聞畫面供應平台「歐洲視訊」(Eurovision),已決定以「國際媒體新聞中心」為基地向全球300餘家電視客戶傳送台灣總統選舉相關畫面。
謝局長指出,台灣的民主發展、言論與新聞自由及政黨政治,向為歐美先進國家所稱許,而總統選舉最能展現台灣民主發展的進程,及我國家主權獨立的事實。對照中國近日來以軍事武力迫害西藏人民,並封鎖媒體訊息,台灣的民主自由更值得世人珍惜。由於本次選舉結果攸關台灣未來政治走向、兩岸關係發展,將牽動美、中、台三邊關係,因此受到國際社會的高度重視。謝局長竭誠歡迎國際人士來台觀察台灣的總統選舉,見證並報導台灣民主發展實況,希望國人尊重國際媒體採訪之自由權。他預祝國內、外媒體記者採訪任務成功,同時也提醒記者在採訪期間要注意自身的安全。

陳總統水扁先生今天上午參加『全球產業科技高峰論壇』開幕儀式致詞表示,面對知識經濟時代及全球化佈局的潮流,國際競爭日益激烈,如何提供優良的投資環境、強化研發、培育人才,快速提升創新能力,使台灣成為創新研發及高附加價值產品的製造中心,一直都是政府與產業界大家共同努力的目標。
總統並期許國內高科技產業發展的相關決策單位,在政府推動新世紀國家建設計畫目標下,繼續扮演帶動產業知識密集化發展的角色,健全高科技產業全球化運籌發展,強化產業競爭力,貫徹政府拼經濟的政策。
總統致詞內容全文為:
非常高興能受邀參加『全球產業科技高峰論壇』開幕儀式、首先向主辦單位及協辦單位表達恭喜之意,也感謝大家為國內科技產業技術發展所做的種種努力,以及『全球台灣產業科技聯合會』創會成功。
本次高峰論壇主題配合政府『大投資、大溫暖』計畫,提供一個討論的平台給相關單位與科技產業界進行交流,並向政府提出建言,讓台灣的產業科技與國際接軌,並有助於協助政府發展高科技產業、拼好經濟。
根據2007-2008年世界經濟論壇(WEF)所發布的「全球競爭力報告」,台灣近兩年「產業聚落發展競爭力評比」持續位居全球第一,「專利權獲得數」也拿到全球第三,其中的關鍵,在於台灣憑藉優異的創新能力,以比其他先進國家更少的資本投入,卻獲得更多的創新產出,成為全球創新國家的典範。這些都是我們發展產業科技最重要的資產。
台灣不但是福爾摩沙美麗之島,更是綠色矽島。當產業面對愈來愈激烈的全球化競爭,我們要積極落實「深耕台灣、佈局全球」的總體發展策略,建立以台灣優先,而且具有主體性的產業結構,並以創新研發能量帶動台灣整體產業發展,提高台灣產業附加價值,進而創造「台灣綠色科技島」的理想願景。
面對知識經濟時代及全球化佈局的潮流,國際競爭日益激烈,如何提供優良的投資環境、強化研發、培育人才,快速提升創新能力,使台灣成為創新研發及高附加價值產品的製造中心,一直都是政府與產業界大家共同努力的目標。因此,政府希望與民間企業結合,建立建設性的夥伴關係,共同為營造永續發展環境來攜手努力。也期許國內高科技產業發展的相關決策單位,在政府推動新世紀國家建設計畫目標下,繼續扮演帶動產業知識密集化發展的角色,健全高科技產業全球化運籌發展,強化產業競爭力,貫徹政府拼經濟的政策。

成功引領台灣會展產業邁入新紀元
【外貿協會3月16日台北訊】由中華民國對外貿易發展協會與台灣區自行車輸出業同業公會共同主辦的第21屆「台北國際自行車展覽會」,於3月16日圓滿閉幕。本屆參展規模與買主人數均創歷史新高,除了參展攤位數較去(96)年成長近24%之外,國內外參觀人次達86,000人次,其中國外買主4,640人,較去年成長17.8%,排名前五名的買主國分別為日本、美國、韓國、德國及中國大陸,且來自中東、東歐、東南亞及中南美洲等新興國家的買主大幅成長,由於本屆買主大增,許多參展廠商紛紛向主辦單位洽詢預定明年的攤位;連帶多位來自歐、美、澳洲等國外買主,也紛紛詢問明年檔期,以便前來觀展。
英國最大自行車零配件連鎖通路商Halfords、美國Trek、德國Paul Lange、Monz、西班牙MACARIO LLORENTE、BH Bikes、土耳其Salko bisiklet,以及歐洲兩輪車零組件產業協會(COLIPED)等來自全球數十個國家重量級專業買主都派員前來參觀採購台灣研發生產之高品質自行車與零配件,十足展現本展的國際影響力。
本次展覽因首次在南港展覽館舉辦,開幕典禮當天冠蓋雲集,除了國際展覽組織及全球知名自行車展主辦單位蒞臨,另外30多國駐台代表、政府相關單位首長及國內外媒體等將近400人出席;陳水扁總統並親臨致辭及參觀本展,對南港展覽館的完善規劃及我國自行車業者積極創新研發的精神深表讚許。
而對於自行車展在首次啟用的南港展覽館舉行,不僅參展廠商覺得攤位較以往寬敞舒適,買主對於展場的全新設施與服務感到相當滿意,全館無線上網更讓他們覺得耳目一新。另一方面,主辦單位外貿協會針對展場交通的用心規劃,透過展前強力宣導、密集的接駁專車班次、清楚的路標指引及停車規劃,讓參觀者都能迅速與便捷地到達展場,許多國外買主甚至表示因為主辦單位的貼心安排與規劃,比歐美知名自行車展覽的交通狀況佳。
在此次展覽中,台灣自行車業展示結合上、中、下游體系完整的優勢,及世界級品質水準的全新系列產品。國際知名大廠如巨大(GIANT)展出的CLIP折疊車、大師系列Trance X 0登山車等,因造型獨特、功能齊全,獲得許多國外買主的青睞; 愛地雅(IDEAL)鎂合金可攜式街跑車不但價格具競爭力,在現今訴求環保與節能的趨勢下,同樣受買主好評,美利達工業(MERIDA)的極輕量化全避震車因為輕巧靈活,更是展場注目的焦點;而零配件廠商更是不遑多讓,如桂盟研發的新型坦克鏈、超輕鏈,讓來自歐美等國買主對於台灣研發設計的實力大表讚賞,卜威工業的SPF成型公路計時車也讓許多買主為之驚艷,亞獵士科技則表示其最新研發之快速散熱車圈,國際買主詢問度及下單意願都很高。而CSK所推出的自行車更鑲上華麗鑽石,更讓自行車成為時尚品味的表徵。總體而言,參展廠商此次在展覽現場接單金額百萬美元以上比比皆是,買氣鼎盛!
另一方面,今年展覽也充分反應現今節能趨勢,在展場中可以明顯發現,許多國內成車大廠均積極投入電動自行車的開發,希望結合原本自行車產業的雄厚研發製造基礎及台灣電子業優異的垂直整合能力,再創產業新契機。
國外買主對於此次展覽及台灣產品的優良水準更是讚不絕口,如來自荷蘭Tradewinds BV的Mr.Michel Haas就表示,因為本展產品種類齊全,且該公司與台灣的許多廠商均保持密切合作關係,因此透過本次觀展更會擴大對台下單。而來自澳洲Clarence St Clyclery的Mr. Peter Beswick也認為本展與歐美自行車展覽相比毫不遜色,不但是專業貿易展,且產品都屬於中、高級車種,可有效滿足要求品質的國際買主「一站購足」的需要,也是技術交流與商業交易的最佳平台,成功打造台灣成為全球自行車的採購中心。
另外,主辦單位於展覽期間規劃多項活動,包括「自行車暨電動車全球市場趨勢論壇」,探討全球自行車與電動車市場現況、自行車產業趨勢及自行車安全標準等議題,吸引近300位專業買主及廠商參加。反應熱烈!尤其會中探討的綠色趨勢,也徹底改變業者對於自行車使用材質的設計,例如改用竹子製作車架,不僅重量更輕,更徹底落實環保概念。
而其他活動如國際自由車環台賽(Tour de Taiwan)、自行車趨勢論壇、戶外試騎、單車極限表演等也讓本展更加多元!其中國際自由車總會的荷蘭籍裁判長Mr. Martin Bruin 也表示自由車環台賽結合自行車展同期舉行是全球創舉,可以有效提升台灣自行車競賽與產業的國際知名度。
此外,配合本展於開幕當日舉辦的『第十二屆IBDC全球自行車設計比賽頒獎典禮』及『2008國際自行車趨勢論壇』活動盛會為全球自行車設計界之年度盛事,12年來,獲得來自歐洲36國、亞洲26國、美洲17國、非洲5國、大洋洲2國,共計五大洲86個國家8714位優秀設計師報名參賽。本次頒獎除展現回顧歷年成果及最新得獎創意設計外,更發表5部2008最新創意概念實車產品,包括金牌獎、Giant獎及Merida獎、還有與國內業者及學界共同合作開發之可商品化實車,不但讓參賽的國際設計師夢想實現,更因創新概念的實踐,拓展台灣自行車設計國際化之目標,並繼續為台灣自行車產業擘劃新的契機與未來方向。而來台參與國際自行車趨勢論壇的德國iF 國際論壇設計有限公司總經理Mr. Ralph Wiegmann也在演講中提到台灣精良的設計研發能力帶動中小企業的發展,並對整體產業鏈的建構,產生非常關鍵的影響力,也是台灣自行車產品得以稱霸全球的原因。

The Great Success of the Opening of TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall Brings MICE Industry of Taiwan to a New Era
【March 16, TAITRA, Taipei】 The 21st “Taipei International Cycle Show” held the closing ceremony on March 16, this show was cosponsored by TAITRA and Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’Association (TBEA). Not only both the magnitude for this year’s exhibition and the number of buyer attendance reached historical new height, but also the number of exhibition stand expanded with 24% growth than that of 2007. Amidst of all these record-breakings, there were over 86,000 visitors from either local or abroad to attend this show, with buyers from abroad reached as many as 4,640, which represented about 17.8% growth than that of last year. The top five foreign buyers were from Japan, US, South Korea, Germany and Mainland China respectively amidst the major growth of buyers from countries in the Middle East, East Europe, Southeast Asia and Central and South America. Since we witnessed the hefty increase of buyer this year, additionally, many participating manufacturers already inquired how to book next year’s show stands in advance. This also triggered many foreign manufacturer participants from Europe, US and Australia, etc, to further inquire and confirm next year’s exhibition schedules to make sure that they would not miss the next exhibition.
Halfords Group plc, the largest retailer for bicycles and associated parts in the UK, Trek of US, Paul Lange, Monz of Germany, MACARIO LLORENTE and BH Bikes of Spain, and Salko bisiklet of Turkey in addition to the Association of the European Two-Wheeler Parts’ and Accessories’ Industry (COLIPED), etc, plus over dozens heavyweight professional buyers, all dispatched personnel to participate and procure the high quality bicycle products, parts and accessories produced, manufactured with Taiwan’s R&D knowhow. The act itself exemplified the international influences emanated from this show.
This exhibition was held at Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall the first time ever. On the day of opening ceremony, dignitaries gathered besides those from organizations of international exhibition and the sponsors from bicycle exhibition, they also included over representatives from over 30 countries, top echelons from relevant government organizations in addition to nearly 400 of both domestic and foreign media representatives. The presence of President Chen Shui-bien in addition to keynote speech delivered and subsequent touring of the exhibition indicated his commending approvals and praises for the perfect planning of Nangang Exhibition Hall in addition to the aggressive R&D innovative spirits personifying our bicycle industry.
The opening of TWTC Nangang not only provides the participating manufacturers with space and room comforts at exhibition stands, but also the buyers feel considerably satisfied in regard to the brand new facilities and services behind them, especially to a varieties of food and beverages offered, and quite impressed with WLAN access throughout the facility. Alternatively, TAITRA as the sponsor also conducted perfect planning targeting the traffic routes in and out of the exhibition facility. Through aggressive promotions prior the start of exhibition, followed with shuttle bus of near non-stop scheduling and clear route maps for guidance and parking arrangements, all of these efforts paid off that the tourists for the show could reach the designated exhibition locations efficiently and rapidly. Many foreign buyers even expressed their satisfaction in regard to the considerate arrangements and planning by the sponsor, and gave high marks for the well-planned traffic routes which were much better than most bicycle shows held in Europe and America.
Within this exhibition, we can witness the comprehensive advantages exemplified through successful integration of the top, middle and bottom systemic portions for Taiwan bicycle industry, in addition to the brand new series of products with world class meeting the demands of both quality and standard commonly seen abroad. Internationally renowned manufacturers like GIANT with its exhibited CLIP folding bike, the Maestro Trance X0, etc, because of the uniqueness in style, performance package attractions, they became the focus of attention for many foreign buyers. IDEAL’s ‘Gocycle” not only is priced competitive market wise, but also addressed the needs of environmental concerns and energy saving demands, they also garnered the attention from buyers. And the extremely light and completely cushioned bicycle, Ninety Six, from MERIDA also became the attention of the exhibition ground because of its light weight and easy to handle. And the parts and accessories manufacturers received no less attentions, like KMC’s tank-chain, super light chain, these impressed the buyers from Europe and US with true strength from Taiwan’s R&D and design capabilities. SPF Time Trial Frame from the Kinesis Industry Co., Ltd also left indelible impression in the minds of foreign buyers. The newly developed Hallowed Breaking Side Rim design by ALEX GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY, INC, was also the focus of international buyers and the buyers commended the bicycle technology witnessed in the show, and highly motivated to place the orders right there. And CSK manufactured bicycles were inlayed with magnificent diamonds which symbolized that the bicycle itself can be the forerunner of taste. Overall, the participating manufacturers received effective business orders well exceeding millions USD and result spoke for itself.
On the other hand, this year’s exhibition reflected the trends of energy saving. And in the exhibition itself, one could easily discover that many large domestic manufacturers aggressively pitched in and involved themselves with the developments of electric bicycle. The act itself reflected the reality that by integrating the hefty R&D manufacturing bases from the industry with the excellent vertical integration capability from Taiwan electronic industry, the end result would be new business opportunities for this industry.
And the foreign buyers simply could not stop praising the superb standards of Taiwan’s products in this exhibition. For example, Mr. Michel Hass from Tradewinds BV, Holland, he expressed that because the product lines in this exhibition was both full of varieties and comprehensive in nature, and his company maintained closely cooperative relationships with many local Taiwan manufacturers, therefore he expected to increase the purchase orders as result. And Mr. Peter Beswick from Clarence St Clyclery, Australia also recognized that, this exhibition was more than equal to those held in Europe and US. It not only was the professional trade show, but also the products exhibited belonged to the high ended category, and the “One stop shopping” needs could be satisfied effectively for international buyers who were quality conscious by nature. This platform was the best there was as far as the technology exchange was concerned, and could be attributed as the bicycle procurement heavyweights in the world.
Additionally, sponsor of this show planned a variety of activities, included “Taipei Int’l Bicycle and LEV Forum”, which explored issues for market status of global bicycle and electric motored bicycle, the bicycle industry trends and safety standards. This forum attracted nearly 300 professional buyers and the participation of manufacturers, and the participant reaction was overwhelming to say the least. Issued explored in the forum like the GREEN trend, which revolutionized the bicycle design materials for the manufacturer. For example, using bamboo to manufacture the frame of bicycle, would not only make the weight lighter and the act itself would thoroughly implement the environmental concerns.
Other activities like Tour de Taiwan, Forums for bicycle trends, outdoor test rides, performance like pushing the envelope of bicycle, etc, would inject diversity into this exhibition! And Mr. Martin Bruin, the International commissionaire of UCI from Holland also expressed that, Tour de Taiwan integrated with the exhibition itself is a globally groundbreaking event to say the least. It could effectively elevate the level of bicycle competition in Taiwan and the renowned recognition of Taiwan Bicycle Industry.
Alongside the Award Ceremony of the 12th IBDC, the International Bicycle Trend Forum hosted by Cycling & Health Tech Industry R& D Center (CHC) also created an inspirational and substantial platform where new market trends and the birth of new bicycle concepts can be brought together and integrated. Mr. Ralph Wiegmann, the general manager of iF, the International Forum Design GmbH, also mentioned in his speech that, Taiwan’s excellent design casted the pivotal impact towards the developments for the small and medium sized enterprises locally here, and was the driving force behind the dominating status which Taiwan bicycle products enjoyed.
In summary, this exhibition of bicycle received well deserved recognitions from foreign buyers in regard to the new product R&Ds which the Taiwan bicycle industry continuously invested. The products themselves spoke eloquently to the buyers from everywhere in the world with the latest market dynamics and meaningful information. In recent years, Taiwan bicycle industry constantly pursued the goals of making the product lighter, with more market divergences and creativities. And Taipei International Cycle Show has always headed this way with innovation of activities, and provided diversified services and elevating the qualities of exhibitions held here. The ultimate goal is to showcase the bicycle product of “Value of innovation and always be the trendsetter”, and the mean time, be the best choices that foreign buyers preferred.

Taipei Int’l Sporting Goods Show (TaiSPO) organized by “Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA)”, co-organized by Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (TSMA) and Taipei Sporting Goods Association(TSGA), was held in four days from March 13 to 16 with participation of nearly 300 domestic and foreign manufacturers occupying almost 1,600 stands. Based on the statistical compilation from TAITRA, there were about 27,000 domestic and foreign buyers attended this Show and 2,200 buyers from overseas, representing a 13.2% growth than that from last year. The majority of the buyers attended the Show spread out in different countries like Germany, Japan, US, England, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, China, India, Thailand, Singapore and Canada, etc. And the expression from the majority of attended manufacturers all pointed out that there was significant increase of buyers here than that of last year, in addition to witnessed hot buying sprees and all manufacturers showed with positive nod on this year’s performance.
In this year, TaiSPO was held simultaneously together with Taipei International Cycle Show(Taipei Cycle), the largest in Asia, at the location of the recently completed Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall. With concurrent promotion, the business opportunity was significantly enhanced with witnessed increases in purchasing. During four days of exhibition, under the auspices of TAITRA with nearly nonstopping shuttle buses between these two major exhibition halls, the end result of exhibition itself clearly exceeded that of last year’s.
Although with the ongoing worldwide depression, Taiwan’s sporting goods industry still maintains certain edges in experienced technology accumulated throughout years in the past, the development capacity and capability from the industry itself, especially in the high-ended product lines with enhanced interactive integration from the technologies of IT industries. Manufacturers adroitly utilize respective advantages under intensively competitive environments from both domestic or abroad and still enhance the inherent functionalities of Taiwan manufacturers. The act itself successfully raises the added value for product made here and effectively converts Taiwan into the procurement center status in Asia. The major element of success from Taiwan manufacturers rests upon the innovation. According to the latest innovation chart in 2007 compiled by The Economist ( Economist Intelligence Unit--EIU), Taiwan was rated as second only to Japan’s in Asian area, this was quite indicative that Taiwan was rated in a remarkably competitive sense as far as innovation is concerned.
Taiwan sporting goods industry still maintains the fast pace of continuously focusing on the innovation of product design and R&D. In TaiSPO2008, we witnessed that many Taiwan local manufacturers had been evolved from the foundry capacity in the past into owning their own brand names, ensued with producing high-ended products supported by large infusions of R&D dollars. This essentially enabled the Taiwan sporting goods industry turn in remarkable reporting cards. Representatives of this successfully carving out Taiwan brand-names, include Strength Master from Taichung, Tai Sheng Electrical Machinery Co., LTD from Chunghwa and Sportsman Corporation Co. etc.
This year, the major foreign buyers from every corner of the earth participated TaiSPO. The organizer, TAITRA went forward to arrange the procurement meetings, which took place at the sencond day of the exhibition with over 40 countries representing the pivotal group of foreign buyers. Through full-fledged supports from Ministry of Economic Affairs(MOEA) and the TAITRA’s overseas branches with subsequent invitation efforts put forth, many heavyweight foreign buyers decided to participate this show, including Kamparts Inc, ICON Health & Fitness Inc, Molino Deportivo of US, Technogym SpA of Italy, BIPAN SPORTS INDUSTRIES, Matta Sports of India, Sun and Sand Sports LLC of United Arab Emirates, REEBOK FITNESS EQUIPMENT SPORE of Brazil, CJ Home Shopping Co., Ltd of Korea, Transmark Corporation Sdn Bhd of Malaysia, and VECESA of Guatemala, etc. All participated buyers expressed gratitude in regard to the consultation and negotiation meetings consciously provided by the sponsor of this activity. These meetings were acknowledged as providing the best platform of trading and technology exchange between the participating manufacturers and the buyers alike. And the onsite negotiating and consulting sessions were pretty active with impressive potential business opportunities waiting to be unearthed.
Taiwan not only stabilized and controlled the influx of the market opportunities from Europe, US and Japan, and also identified remarkable business opportunities in new emerging markets like Middle East area. CEO of Kirat International, India, Harmeet Singh Luthra expressed his utmost satisfaction regarding the quality and performance of Physical Fitness Equipments made in Taiwan. He said he also maintained frequent contacts with similar manufacturers in the neighboring countries in Asia, nevertheless, always was impressed by the best quality of Physical Fitness Equipments made in Taiwan. Since this industry in Taiwan has an early jump development wise, and the manufacturers are constantly “pushing the envelop” by rolling out new product performances. And the new products always bring in pleasant surprises for the buyers. For instance, the product performance seems to address the needs that even the consumers have not even thought of. Naturally the consumers who feel and respond in regard to their services are more than mere satisfied. And this is exactly why Luthra personally came here to attend Taipei Int’l Sporting Goods Show and selected the latest products on his own. He also indicated that he heard good reviews of massage chairs made with predictably Taiwan high quality and was quite confident that this product would generate a significant piece of market shares in India alone. He acknowledged that the massage chair and physical fitness equipments could work together as a team, the former representing static and the latter as dynamic, and if there was product that could have the strength of both, then this product was to provide an indispensably comprehensive services for consumers. And there was another buyer from Middle East, the procurement chief, Tayeb M. Ebrahim of Tayeb Afsar Trading Est. from Dubai. Ebrahim came to the Show every year, he expressed that although there were substantial changes in the Taiwan sporting goods industry, still, Ebrahim indicated that, the overall production technology for Taiwan sporting goods was still way ahead of those neighboring countries with constant innovation witnessed. Each year he could discern the new products coming out in TaiSPO with even minor performance innovation or modest enhancements. He still could identify the dedication to innovation and changes by the manufacturers and this deserved acknowledgement from him. General manager Jorge Hane of Premier Solutions from Germany expressed that he felt more than satisfactory about the exhibition area planning for the innovative product area in this show, in addition to the services provided for the buyers, and gave high marks to this exhibition overall.
During the exhibition, TAITRA invited World Federation Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), an organization of internationally renowned, important sporting goods alliance, which has always maintained close interactions with us. The president of WFSGI Mr. John Larsen, Secretary General Mr. Robbert De Kock, WFSGI’s regional board directors representing respective presence in Europe, American continent and Asia, in addition to the sponsoring organizations like ispo of Munich, Germany, which was rated as the largest in the world, all participated this show. Mr. Ronald Unterburger, Managing Director for Asia Pacific region of ispo organizer, the Munich International Exhibition Co. of Germany, et al, the heavyweight VIPs all came to Taiwan to tour this show and this was a clear indication of Taiwan’s international connection could not be ignored. During the period of exhibition, our conference rooms were held with a series of seminars which led the manufacturers with overviews of oversea market trends and management strategies. Speakers included the VIPs of the above mentioned WFSGI with topics comprising of “How to develop the sporting goods market in Europe alliance”, “How to build the name brand internationally”, “Perspectives from marketing strategy and law and regulations for Taiwan enterprises”, “Innovation and R&D trending for sporting goods industry” and “How to connect with international standards”, etc. The manufacturers responded with positive comments in regard to understanding how the brand name development strategy works, in addition to developing and penetrating the international markets and innovations, R&D trending, etc.
TaiSPO was opened to domestic and foreign buyers and relevant manufacturers only. For many years, this show has maintained an adequate magnitude with considerable comfortableness in mind. In addition, this show also held contests of innovativeness (TaiSPO ALL STARS – Inno-Stage of Excellence award) and assisted buyers to effectively unearth new products. And the act of this facilitated the creation of perfect trading platform for relevant proprietors. The buying sprees were impressive in this year’s TaiSPO, most buyers expressed that the exhibition planning and the procurement negotiation and consultation environment were relatively comfortable, the routes in exhibition ground were smooth and well-planned ahead, the product quality for manufacturer was steadfast with the pricings in the reasonable range between medium and high end. Comparing with those of similar exhibitions held at Asia overall, this show of TaiSPO took the route of being small but quality-conscious. Through the exchange platform provided by this exhibition in addition to the efforts put in by the organizer,, TAITRA and the co-organizers, TSMA & TSGA, an Asian fine sporting goods procurement center successfully emerged in Taiwan. And the “2009 TaiSPO” is tentatively scheduled between March 19 and 22, 2009. We sincerely welcome all relevant buyers and manufacturers to join us next year.

Press Conference Marking the Transfer of Biphasic Osteochondral Repair for Articular Cartilag
Biphasic osteochondral repair for articular cartilage regeneration technology marks a breakthrough for Taiwan.
Physicians had expressed the urgent need for such technology in clinical therapy. The technology was designed
in conjunction with medical equipment and ITRI contributed state-of-the-art technology in this cooperative effort.
Research achievements are now being transferred to Exactech Taiwan. This cooperation sets a model for the
development of high value-added biomedical product technology on Taiwan.
A press conference will be held on March 18 at 10:00 a.m. in Conference Room 402AB at the National Taiwan
University Hospital’s International Convention Center, at which an agreement will be signed transferring the
technology jointly developed by ITRI and NTU Hospital to Exactech Taiwan.

收盤簡評
週一台股受到上週五美股重挫,與亞洲股市普遍開低影響,大盤跳空下跌,電子股成為跌勢重心,DRAM、TFT面板與IC設計股紛重挫,僅LED與博弈概念股相對強勢,非電子族群則以選後兩岸題材股的飯店、資產營建、航運等類股表現較佳,大盤指數終場大跌155.93點,以8005.46點作收,成交量略放大為1185億。
重點觀察
盤大盤週一出現8120-8053點的跳空缺口並直接摜破季線,此缺口與2/25跳空缺口8108-8228點對稱,短線宜迅速回補,否則技術面有島型反轉疑慮,台股中、短線技術面偏弱勢。目前上檔5/10日均線反壓在8300點持續走弱,但下檔兩年線在7800-7900點間持續上揚,配合9日KD來到25/42,大盤7800-8000點支撐不弱。
研判建議
最近美國金融機構狀況不斷,除令國際主要股市頻頻破底、表現疲弱外,FED也以緊急釋金與大幅降息以對;由於美國經濟需要長期調整,包括亞、歐與中國大陸經濟勢將受到影響,對台股長線格局易形成壓抑需留意。就操作策略來看,若選前股價再見急挫,反而有利台股選後短線強彈契機,空手者仍可酌量擇優低接。

台灣總統選舉受到國際高度關注國際媒體新聞中心」啟用儀式中表示
台灣總統選舉受到國際高度關注,行政院新聞局以專業熱誠及嶄新作為接待來台採訪之國際媒體記者
隨著總統大選造勢進入最後一週,選情白熱化之際,目前已知有35個國家與地區的180個媒體、25家智庫將派遣540名以上的記者及專家自今日起陸續抵台進行採訪與觀選。目前向新聞局登記將來台採訪的歐美主流媒體包括紐約時報、華盛頓郵報、華爾街日報、美聯社、英國泰晤士報、BBC、路透社、法國世界報、費加洛日報、法新社、德國第一廣播電視台(ARD)、德國之聲等派駐在亞洲之特派員等共有181人;日本讀賣新聞、NHK、日本經濟新聞、每日新聞等主要媒體共有104人;阿拉伯世界的卡達半島電視台、伊朗Press TV、沙烏地阿拉伯Al Arabiya電視台共8人;此外,全球華文媒體有40家174人完成報名,其中除中國新華社、人民日報、中央電視台等8家原已在台駐點的14名記者外,尚有香港地區30餘家媒體130餘人將來台採訪。
謝志偉局長在3月17日舉行的「國際媒體新聞中心」啟用儀式中表示,新聞局稟持一貫服務媒體的理念,及長期積累的專業經驗,今年以嶄新的作為接待這些國際媒體記者,包括開放網路報名、成立「國際媒體新聞中心」、提供報導素材與活動。新聞局首度成立的「國際媒體新聞中心」將透過專業的服務,協助國際媒體對台灣大選之報導,以促使國際社會對我民主政治發展有更深層的認識。該中心將於3月18日至24日開放給國際媒體人士使用。
「國際媒體新聞中心」除提供個人OA工作桌、電腦及網路網點、通訊設備等設施外,並安排選情座談會、台灣參與世界衛生組織(WHO)座談會及相關參訪活動、大陸委員會陳明通主任委員記者會、「長昌」及「馬蕭」競選總部國際記者會、台灣戰略安全研討會,以及分析開票情形等一系列活動。3月16日至18日間,新聞局並將與國防部及文化建設委員會合辦國際記者赴金門及綠島之採訪行程。全球最大的新聞畫面供應平台「歐洲視訊」(Eurovision),已決定以「國際媒體新聞中心」為基地向全球300餘家電視客戶傳送台灣總統選舉相關畫面。

總統並期許國內高科技產業發展的相關決策單位,在政府推動新世紀國家建設計畫目標下,繼續扮演帶動產業知識密集化發展的角色,健全高科技產業全球化運籌發展,強化產業競爭力,貫徹政府拼經濟的政策。

非常高興能受邀參加『全球產業科技高峰論壇』開幕儀式、首先向主辦單位及協辦單位表達恭喜之意,也感謝大家為國內科技產業技術發展所做的種種努力,以及『全球台灣產業科技聯合會』創會成功。
本次高峰論壇主題配合政府『大投資、大溫暖』計畫,提供一個討論的平台給相關單位與科技產業界進行交流,並向政府提出建言,讓台灣的產業科技與國際接軌,並有助於協助政府發展高科技產業、拼好經濟。
根據2007-2008年世界經濟論壇(WEF)所發布的「全球競爭力報告」,台灣近兩年「產業聚落發展競爭力評比」持續位居全球第一,「專利權獲得數」也拿到全球第三,其中的關鍵,在於台灣憑藉優異的創新能力,以比其他先進國家更少的資本投入,卻獲得更多的創新產出,成為全球創新國家的典範。這些都是我們發展產業科技最重要的資產。
台灣不但是福爾摩沙美麗之島,更是綠色矽島。當產業面對愈來愈激烈的全球化競爭,我們要積極落實「深耕台灣、佈局全球」的總體發展策略,建立以台灣優先,而且具有主體性的產業結構,並以創新研發能量帶動台灣整體產業發展,提高台灣產業附加價值,進而創造「台灣綠色科技島」的理想願景。
面對知識經濟時代及全球化佈局的潮流,國際競爭日益激烈,如何提供優良的投資環境、強化研發、培育人才,快速提升創新能力,使台灣成為創新研發及高附加價值產品的製造中心,一直都是政府與產業界大家共同努力的目標。因此,政府希望與民間企業結合,建立建設性的夥伴關係,共同為營造永續發展環境來攜手努力。也期許國內高科技產業發展的相關決策單位,在政府推動新世紀國家建設計畫目標下,繼續扮演帶動產業知識密集化發展的角色,健全高科技產業全球化運籌發展,強化產業競爭力,貫徹政府拼經濟的政策。

成功引領台灣會展產業邁入新紀元
【外貿協會3月16日台北訊】由中華民國對外貿易發展協會與台灣區自行車輸出業同業公會共同主辦的第21屆「台北國際自行車展覽會」,於3月16日圓滿閉幕。本屆參展規模與買主人數均創歷史新高,除了參展攤位數較去(96)年成長近24%之外,國內外參觀人次達86,000人次,其中國外買主4,640人,較去年成長17.8%,排名前五名的買主國分別為日本、美國、韓國、德國及中國大陸,且來自中東、東歐、東南亞及中南美洲等新興國家的買主大幅成長,由於本屆買主大增,許多參展廠商紛紛向主辦單位洽詢預定明年的攤位;連帶多位來自歐、美、澳洲等國外買主,也紛紛詢問明年檔期,以便前來觀展。
英國最大自行車零配件連鎖通路商Halfords、美國Trek、德國Paul Lange、Monz、西班牙MACARIO LLORENTE、BH Bikes、土耳其Salko bisiklet,以及歐洲兩輪車零組件產業協會(COLIPED)等來自全球數十個國家重量級專業買主都派員前來參觀採購台灣研發生產之高品質自行車與零配件,十足展現本展的國際影響力。
本次展覽因首次在南港展覽館舉辦,開幕典禮當天冠蓋雲集,除了國際展覽組織及全球知名自行車展主辦單位蒞臨,另外30多國駐台代表、政府相關單位首長及國內外媒體等將近400人出席;陳水扁總統並親臨致辭及參觀本展,對南港展覽館的完善規劃及我國自行車業者積極創新研發的精神深表讚許。
而對於自行車展在首次啟用的南港展覽館舉行,不僅參展廠商覺得攤位較以往寬敞舒適,買主對於展場的全新設施與服務感到相當滿意,全館無線上網更讓他們覺得耳目一新。另一方面,主辦單位外貿協會針對展場交通的用心規劃,透過展前強力宣導、密集的接駁專車班次、清楚的路標指引及停車規劃,讓參觀者都能迅速與便捷地到達展場,許多國外買主甚至表示因為主辦單位的貼心安排與規劃,比歐美知名自行車展覽的交通狀況佳。
在此次展覽中,台灣自行車業展示結合上、中、下游體系完整的優勢,及世界級品質水準的全新系列產品。國際知名大廠如巨大(GIANT)展出的CLIP折疊車、大師系列Trance X 0登山車等,因造型獨特、功能齊全,獲得許多國外買主的青睞; 愛地雅(IDEAL)鎂合金可攜式街跑車不但價格具競爭力,在現今訴求環保與節能的趨勢下,同樣受買主好評,美利達工業(MERIDA)的極輕量化全避震車因為輕巧靈活,更是展場注目的焦點;而零配件廠商更是不遑多讓,如桂盟研發的新型坦克鏈、超輕鏈,讓來自歐美等國買主對於台灣研發設計的實力大表讚賞,卜威工業的SPF成型公路計時車也讓許多買主為之驚艷,亞獵士科技則表示其最新研發之快速散熱車圈,國際買主詢問度及下單意願都很高。而CSK所推出的自行車更鑲上華麗鑽石,更讓自行車成為時尚品味的表徵。總體而言,參展廠商此次在展覽現場接單金額百萬美元以上比比皆是,買氣鼎盛!
另一方面,今年展覽也充分反應現今節能趨勢,在展場中可以明顯發現,許多國內成車大廠均積極投入電動自行車的開發,希望結合原本自行車產業的雄厚研發製造基礎及台灣電子業優異的垂直整合能力,再創產業新契機。
國外買主對於此次展覽及台灣產品的優良水準更是讚不絕口,如來自荷蘭Tradewinds BV的Mr.Michel Haas就表示,因為本展產品種類齊全,且該公司與台灣的許多廠商均保持密切合作關係,因此透過本次觀展更會擴大對台下單。而來自澳洲Clarence St Clyclery的Mr. Peter Beswick也認為本展與歐美自行車展覽相比毫不遜色,不但是專業貿易展,且產品都屬於中、高級車種,可有效滿足要求品質的國際買主「一站購足」的需要,也是技術交流與商業交易的最佳平台,成功打造台灣成為全球自行車的採購中心。
另外,主辦單位於展覽期間規劃多項活動,包括「自行車暨電動車全球市場趨勢論壇」,探討全球自行車與電動車市場現況、自行車產業趨勢及自行車安全標準等議題,吸引近300位專業買主及廠商參加。反應熱烈!尤其會中探討的綠色趨勢,也徹底改變業者對於自行車使用材質的設計,例如改用竹子製作車架,不僅重量更輕,更徹底落實環保概念。
而其他活動如國際自由車環台賽(Tour de Taiwan)、自行車趨勢論壇、戶外試騎、單車極限表演等也讓本展更加多元!其中國際自由車總會的荷蘭籍裁判長Mr. Martin Bruin 也表示自由車環台賽結合自行車展同期舉行是全球創舉,可以有效提升台灣自行車競賽與產業的國際知名度。
此外,配合本展於開幕當日舉辦的『第十二屆IBDC全球自行車設計比賽頒獎典禮』及『2008國際自行車趨勢論壇』活動盛會為全球自行車設計界之年度盛事,12年來,獲得來自歐洲36國、亞洲26國、美洲17國、非洲5國、大洋洲2國,共計五大洲86個國家8714位優秀設計師報名參賽。本次頒獎除展現回顧歷年成果及最新得獎創意設計外,更發表5部2008最新創意概念實車產品,包括金牌獎、Giant獎及Merida獎、還有與國內業者及學界共同合作開發之可商品化實車,不但讓參賽的國際設計師夢想實現,更因創新概念的實踐,拓展台灣自行車設計國際化之目標,並繼續為台灣自行車產業擘劃新的契機與未來方向。而來台參與國際自行車趨勢論壇的德國iF 國際論壇設計有限公司總經理Mr. Ralph Wiegmann也在演講中提到台灣精良的設計研發能力帶動中小企業的發展,並對整體產業鏈的建構,產生非常關鍵的影響力,也是台灣自行車產品得以稱霸全球的原因。

The Great Success of the Opening of TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall Brings MICE Industry of Taiwan to a New Era
【March 16, TAITRA, Taipei】 The 21st “Taipei International Cycle Show” held the closing ceremony on March 16, this show was cosponsored by TAITRA and Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’Association (TBEA). Not only both the magnitude for this year’s exhibition and the number of buyer attendance reached historical new height, but also the number of exhibition stand expanded with 24% growth than that of 2007. Amidst of all these record-breakings, there were over 86,000 visitors from either local or abroad to attend this show, with buyers from abroad reached as many as 4,640, which represented about 17.8% growth than that of last year. The top five foreign buyers were from Japan, US, South Korea, Germany and Mainland China respectively amidst the major growth of buyers from countries in the Middle East, East Europe, Southeast Asia and Central and South America. Since we witnessed the hefty increase of buyer this year, additionally, many participating manufacturers already inquired how to book next year’s show stands in advance. This also triggered many foreign manufacturer participants from Europe, US and Australia, etc, to further inquire and confirm next year’s exhibition schedules to make sure that they would not miss the next exhibition.
Halfords Group plc, the largest retailer for bicycles and associated parts in the UK, Trek of US, Paul Lange, Monz of Germany, MACARIO LLORENTE and BH Bikes of Spain, and Salko bisiklet of Turkey in addition to the Association of the European Two-Wheeler Parts’ and Accessories’ Industry (COLIPED), etc, plus over dozens heavyweight professional buyers, all dispatched personnel to participate and procure the high quality bicycle products, parts and accessories produced, manufactured with Taiwan’s R&D knowhow. The act itself exemplified the international influences emanated from this show.
This exhibition was held at Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall the first time ever. On the day of opening ceremony, dignitaries gathered besides those from organizations of international exhibition and the sponsors from bicycle exhibition, they also included over representatives from over 30 countries, top echelons from relevant government organizations in addition to nearly 400 of both domestic and foreign media representatives. The presence of President Chen Shui-bien in addition to keynote speech delivered and subsequent touring of the exhibition indicated his commending approvals and praises for the perfect planning of Nangang Exhibition Hall in addition to the aggressive R&D innovative spirits personifying our bicycle industry.
The opening of TWTC Nangang not only provides the participating manufacturers with space and room comforts at exhibition stands, but also the buyers feel considerably satisfied in regard to the brand new facilities and services behind them, especially to a varieties of food and beverages offered, and quite impressed with WLAN access throughout the facility. Alternatively, TAITRA as the sponsor also conducted perfect planning targeting the traffic routes in and out of the exhibition facility. Through aggressive promotions prior the start of exhibition, followed with shuttle bus of near non-stop scheduling and clear route maps for guidance and parking arrangements, all of these efforts paid off that the tourists for the show could reach the designated exhibition locations efficiently and rapidly. Many foreign buyers even expressed their satisfaction in regard to the considerate arrangements and planning by the sponsor, and gave high marks for the well-planned traffic routes which were much better than most bicycle shows held in Europe and America.
Within this exhibition, we can witness the comprehensive advantages exemplified through successful integration of the top, middle and bottom systemic portions for Taiwan bicycle industry, in addition to the brand new series of products with world class meeting the demands of both quality and standard commonly seen abroad. Internationally renowned manufacturers like GIANT with its exhibited CLIP folding bike, the Maestro Trance X0, etc, because of the uniqueness in style, performance package attractions, they became the focus of attention for many foreign buyers. IDEAL’s ‘Gocycle” not only is priced competitive market wise, but also addressed the needs of environmental concerns and energy saving demands, they also garnered the attention from buyers. And the extremely light and completely cushioned bicycle, Ninety Six, from MERIDA also became the attention of the exhibition ground because of its light weight and easy to handle. And the parts and accessories manufacturers received no less attentions, like KMC’s tank-chain, super light chain, these impressed the buyers from Europe and US with true strength from Taiwan’s R&D and design capabilities. SPF Time Trial Frame from the Kinesis Industry Co., Ltd also left indelible impression in the minds of foreign buyers. The newly developed Hallowed Breaking Side Rim design by ALEX GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY, INC, was also the focus of international buyers and the buyers commended the bicycle technology witnessed in the show, and highly motivated to place the orders right there. And CSK manufactured bicycles were inlayed with magnificent diamonds which symbolized that the bicycle itself can be the forerunner of taste. Overall, the participating manufacturers received effective business orders well exceeding millions USD and result spoke for itself.
On the other hand, this year’s exhibition reflected the trends of energy saving. And in the exhibition itself, one could easily discover that many large domestic manufacturers aggressively pitched in and involved themselves with the developments of electric bicycle. The act itself reflected the reality that by integrating the hefty R&D manufacturing bases from the industry with the excellent vertical integration capability from Taiwan electronic industry, the end result would be new business opportunities for this industry.
And the foreign buyers simply could not stop praising the superb standards of Taiwan’s products in this exhibition. For example, Mr. Michel Hass from Tradewinds BV, Holland, he expressed that because the product lines in this exhibition was both full of varieties and comprehensive in nature, and his company maintained closely cooperative relationships with many local Taiwan manufacturers, therefore he expected to increase the purchase orders as result. And Mr. Peter Beswick from Clarence St Clyclery, Australia also recognized that, this exhibition was more than equal to those held in Europe and US. It not only was the professional trade show, but also the products exhibited belonged to the high ended category, and the “One stop shopping” needs could be satisfied effectively for international buyers who were quality conscious by nature. This platform was the best there was as far as the technology exchange was concerned, and could be attributed as the bicycle procurement heavyweights in the world.
Additionally, sponsor of this show planned a variety of activities, included “Taipei Int’l Bicycle and LEV Forum”, which explored issues for market status of global bicycle and electric motored bicycle, the bicycle industry trends and safety standards. This forum attracted nearly 300 professional buyers and the participation of manufacturers, and the participant reaction was overwhelming to say the least. Issued explored in the forum like the GREEN trend, which revolutionized the bicycle design materials for the manufacturer. For example, using bamboo to manufacture the frame of bicycle, would not only make the weight lighter and the act itself would thoroughly implement the environmental concerns.
Other activities like Tour de Taiwan, Forums for bicycle trends, outdoor test rides, performance like pushing the envelope of bicycle, etc, would inject diversity into this exhibition! And Mr. Martin Bruin, the International commissionaire of UCI from Holland also expressed that, Tour de Taiwan integrated with the exhibition itself is a globally groundbreaking event to say the least. It could effectively elevate the level of bicycle competition in Taiwan and the renowned recognition of Taiwan Bicycle Industry.
Alongside the Award Ceremony of the 12th IBDC, the International Bicycle Trend Forum hosted by Cycling & Health Tech Industry R& D Center (CHC) also created an inspirational and substantial platform where new market trends and the birth of new bicycle concepts can be brought together and integrated. Mr. Ralph Wiegmann, the general manager of iF, the International Forum Design GmbH, also mentioned in his speech that, Taiwan’s excellent design casted the pivotal impact towards the developments for the small and medium sized enterprises locally here, and was the driving force behind the dominating status which Taiwan bicycle products enjoyed.
In summary, this exhibition of bicycle received well deserved recognitions from foreign buyers in regard to the new product R&Ds which the Taiwan bicycle industry continuously invested. The products themselves spoke eloquently to the buyers from everywhere in the world with the latest market dynamics and meaningful information. In recent years, Taiwan bicycle industry constantly pursued the goals of making the product lighter, with more market divergences and creativities. And Taipei International Cycle Show has always headed this way with innovation of activities, and provided diversified services and elevating the qualities of exhibitions held here. The ultimate goal is to showcase the bicycle product of “Value of innovation and always be the trendsetter”, and the mean time, be the best choices that foreign buyers preferred.

Taipei Int’l Sporting Goods Show (TaiSPO) organized by “Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA)”, co-organized by Taiwan Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (TSMA) and Taipei Sporting Goods Association(TSGA), was held in four days from March 13 to 16 with participation of nearly 300 domestic and foreign manufacturers occupying almost 1,600 stands. Based on the statistical compilation from TAITRA, there were about 27,000 domestic and foreign buyers attended this Show and 2,200 buyers from overseas, representing a 13.2% growth than that from last year. The majority of the buyers attended the Show spread out in different countries like Germany, Japan, US, England, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, China, India, Thailand, Singapore and Canada, etc. And the expression from the majority of attended manufacturers all pointed out that there was significant increase of buyers here than that of last year, in addition to witnessed hot buying sprees and all manufacturers showed with positive nod on this year’s performance.
In this year, TaiSPO was held simultaneously together with Taipei International Cycle Show(Taipei Cycle), the largest in Asia, at the location of the recently completed Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall. With concurrent promotion, the business opportunity was significantly enhanced with witnessed increases in purchasing. During four days of exhibition, under the auspices of TAITRA with nearly nonstopping shuttle buses between these two major exhibition halls, the end result of exhibition itself clearly exceeded that of last year’s.
Although with the ongoing worldwide depression, Taiwan’s sporting goods industry still maintains certain edges in experienced technology accumulated throughout years in the past, the development capacity and capability from the industry itself, especially in the high-ended product lines with enhanced interactive integration from the technologies of IT industries. Manufacturers adroitly utilize respective advantages under intensively competitive environments from both domestic or abroad and still enhance the inherent functionalities of Taiwan manufacturers. The act itself successfully raises the added value for product made here and effectively converts Taiwan into the procurement center status in Asia. The major element of success from Taiwan manufacturers rests upon the innovation. According to the latest innovation chart in 2007 compiled by The Economist ( Economist Intelligence Unit--EIU), Taiwan was rated as second only to Japan’s in Asian area, this was quite indicative that Taiwan was rated in a remarkably competitive sense as far as innovation is concerned.
Taiwan sporting goods industry still maintains the fast pace of continuously focusing on the innovation of product design and R&D. In TaiSPO2008, we witnessed that many Taiwan local manufacturers had been evolved from the foundry capacity in the past into owning their own brand names, ensued with producing high-ended products supported by large infusions of R&D dollars. This essentially enabled the Taiwan sporting goods industry turn in remarkable reporting cards. Representatives of this successfully carving out Taiwan brand-names, include Strength Master from Taichung, Tai Sheng Electrical Machinery Co., LTD from Chunghwa and Sportsman Corporation Co. etc.
This year, the major foreign buyers from every corner of the earth participated TaiSPO. The organizer, TAITRA went forward to arrange the procurement meetings, which took place at the sencond day of the exhibition with over 40 countries representing the pivotal group of foreign buyers. Through full-fledged supports from Ministry of Economic Affairs(MOEA) and the TAITRA’s overseas branches with subsequent invitation efforts put forth, many heavyweight foreign buyers decided to participate this show, including Kamparts Inc, ICON Health & Fitness Inc, Molino Deportivo of US, Technogym SpA of Italy, BIPAN SPORTS INDUSTRIES, Matta Sports of India, Sun and Sand Sports LLC of United Arab Emirates, REEBOK FITNESS EQUIPMENT SPORE of Brazil, CJ Home Shopping Co., Ltd of Korea, Transmark Corporation Sdn Bhd of Malaysia, and VECESA of Guatemala, etc. All participated buyers expressed gratitude in regard to the consultation and negotiation meetings consciously provided by the sponsor of this activity. These meetings were acknowledged as providing the best platform of trading and technology exchange between the participating manufacturers and the buyers alike. And the onsite negotiating and consulting sessions were pretty active with impressive potential business opportunities waiting to be unearthed.
Taiwan not only stabilized and controlled the influx of the market opportunities from Europe, US and Japan, and also identified remarkable business opportunities in new emerging markets like Middle East area. CEO of Kirat International, India, Harmeet Singh Luthra expressed his utmost satisfaction regarding the quality and performance of Physical Fitness Equipments made in Taiwan. He said he also maintained frequent contacts with similar manufacturers in the neighboring countries in Asia, nevertheless, always was impressed by the best quality of Physical Fitness Equipments made in Taiwan. Since this industry in Taiwan has an early jump development wise, and the manufacturers are constantly “pushing the envelop” by rolling out new product performances. And the new products always bring in pleasant surprises for the buyers. For instance, the product performance seems to address the needs that even the consumers have not even thought of. Naturally the consumers who feel and respond in regard to their services are more than mere satisfied. And this is exactly why Luthra personally came here to attend Taipei Int’l Sporting Goods Show and selected the latest products on his own. He also indicated that he heard good reviews of massage chairs made with predictably Taiwan high quality and was quite confident that this product would generate a significant piece of market shares in India alone. He acknowledged that the massage chair and physical fitness equipments could work together as a team, the former representing static and the latter as dynamic, and if there was product that could have the strength of both, then this product was to provide an indispensably comprehensive services for consumers. And there was another buyer from Middle East, the procurement chief, Tayeb M. Ebrahim of Tayeb Afsar Trading Est. from Dubai. Ebrahim came to the Show every year, he expressed that although there were substantial changes in the Taiwan sporting goods industry, still, Ebrahim indicated that, the overall production technology for Taiwan sporting goods was still way ahead of those neighboring countries with constant innovation witnessed. Each year he could discern the new products coming out in TaiSPO with even minor performance innovation or modest enhancements. He still could identify the dedication to innovation and changes by the manufacturers and this deserved acknowledgement from him. General manager Jorge Hane of Premier Solutions from Germany expressed that he felt more than satisfactory about the exhibition area planning for the innovative product area in this show, in addition to the services provided for the buyers, and gave high marks to this exhibition overall.
During the exhibition, TAITRA invited World Federation Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), an organization of internationally renowned, important sporting goods alliance, which has always maintained close interactions with us. The president of WFSGI Mr. John Larsen, Secretary General Mr. Robbert De Kock, WFSGI’s regional board directors representing respective presence in Europe, American continent and Asia, in addition to the sponsoring organizations like ispo of Munich, Germany, which was rated as the largest in the world, all participated this show. Mr. Ronald Unterburger, Managing Director for Asia Pacific region of ispo organizer, the Munich International Exhibition Co. of Germany, et al, the heavyweight VIPs all came to Taiwan to tour this show and this was a clear indication of Taiwan’s international connection could not be ignored. During the period of exhibition, our conference rooms were held with a series of seminars which led the manufacturers with overviews of oversea market trends and management strategies. Speakers included the VIPs of the above mentioned WFSGI with topics comprising of “How to develop the sporting goods market in Europe alliance”, “How to build the name brand internationally”, “Perspectives from marketing strategy and law and regulations for Taiwan enterprises”, “Innovation and R&D trending for sporting goods industry” and “How to connect with international standards”, etc. The manufacturers responded with positive comments in regard to understanding how the brand name development strategy works, in addition to developing and penetrating the international markets and innovations, R&D trending, etc.
TaiSPO was opened to domestic and foreign buyers and relevant manufacturers only. For many years, this show has maintained an adequate magnitude with considerable comfortableness in mind. In addition, this show also held contests of innovativeness (TaiSPO ALL STARS – Inno-Stage of Excellence award) and assisted buyers to effectively unearth new products. And the act of this facilitated the creation of perfect trading platform for relevant proprietors. The buying sprees were impressive in this year’s TaiSPO, most buyers expressed that the exhibition planning and the procurement negotiation and consultation environment were relatively comfortable, the routes in exhibition ground were smooth and well-planned ahead, the product quality for manufacturer was steadfast with the pricings in the reasonable range between medium and high end. Comparing with those of similar exhibitions held at Asia overall, this show of TaiSPO took the route of being small but quality-conscious. Through the exchange platform provided by this exhibition in addition to the efforts put in by the organizer,, TAITRA and the co-organizers, TSMA & TSGA, an Asian fine sporting goods procurement center successfully emerged in Taiwan.
